I have a small update. I am about to launch a website that will sell these and future creations. I have about all my part vendors squared away. And I am getting a new work space to build these. (Built my prototype on my floor. I will never get the metal shavings out of my rug.) My problem is the core component this whole thing is driven on. The Casio SK-1 shortage.
Ive been trying to get cheap ones off eBay but lately the postings have been for good conditioned SKs that go for more then what I think I should spend. After all I am tearing these down to a single board and the rest of this little synth will get trashed.
I know a lot of people not only have one of these 20-25 year old devices laying around but I am estimating hundreds or thousands are in poor condition by now. Usually such a poor condition you don't even bother selling them on eBay. These are the Casio SK-1s I WANT TO BUY. You can have every key snapped off, missing buttons, and the casing doesn't close without duct-tape, I will buy it off you. Even if you have just the motherboard for it, that is all I need.
There are some conditions though. They have to work, at least be able to power on and produce a note. If the keys are all torn off open it up and find the 12 point strip cable and run a paper clip down it to make it produce some sounds. Another condition is the board must be in great condition cosmetically. I don't want a board that someone attempted to mod and its all gooed up in solders, has traces cut, or is missing a component.
To prevent people from ripping me off I will only pay once I get and test the board. If I can't or wont use it I will ship it back. I have bought so called "newish" SK-1s that never powered up so buying one torn up is a bigger risk. I hope you can understand where I am coming from. I will pay up to $25-$50 dollars depending on its condition. I can do so through Paypal or another secure payment site. Just so I am clear, you don't receive payment before I get and test the board or get any payment higher then I described. If you don't agree with that then post it on eBay and sell it to anyone else.
Despite my firm message I am really appreciative of whoever can do this for me or get the word out for me. I would really love to get these built up and put them back into your hands. Thanks again.

P.S. I am not buying SK-5s right now. I am sure I will be down this same road in the future for SK-5s but right now I need SK-1s more.
